Does anyone remember rock ’n’ roll? I mean guitar solos, screams, stick-your-tongue-out rock ’n’ roll? With The Possibility of Being, Kevin Martin and the Hi-Watts bring back all those hardcore rock fantasies and more as they burst onto the music scene with flaming Fenders in their hands. “Who said your kids are all alright,” they proclaim. “Not underneath my white heart/We are the monsters beneath your beds/Keeping sense of your turning heads.” Now there’s that fear of rock music that has been swept underneath all the garage band fluff and the thing that should actually be feared the most—the dreaded pop music. But don’t think this album is filled with hardcore axe anger and angst. The beauty of The Possibility of Being is the fact that Kevin Martin and Co. grab all that is good about rock music and bring it back in the open—like the power ballad. Man, come on … who doesn’t enjoy that in-your-face beauty of the soft guitar, mess of drums and vocals that hit that note so perfectly your entire body seems to quiver, “Hell yeah!” (Fingers in the air are optional.) And just when you think Martin and the Hi-Watts are going to go soft, they hit you with a song like “Identify.” Martin’s wails and screams in that song alone are enough to send you into a 12- day rock binge surrounded by a haze of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. Keep an eye on these guys—they’re about to become panty dropping-ly famous. Listen to Kevin Martin and the Hi-Watts and buy their CD at www.kmband.com
